In March, Process Integration Limited (PIL), a leading provider of state-of-the-art software and cutting edge technologies to the Energy industry played a key role at the International Process Integration Jubilee Conference 2013 held in Sweden.
The organiser, Chalmers University of Technology, invited a wide spectrum of academia and industry specialists to the conference, at which the speakers presented their papers in topic areas that discussed recent developments in industrial energy processes and new methodologies to help optimise process manufacturing. The conference gave an overview of Process Integration development over the last twenty years, discussed the unlocked potential for energy, economy and sustainability improvement in different industry sectors, and presented examples of success stories.
PIL’s President, Professor Robin Smith, author of the book “Chemical Process Design and Integration”, was on the organising committee of the conference and presented a paper entitled “Recent Developments in Process Integration Design Techniques“. In this paper, he explored how Process Integration techniques have developed in areas such as energy efficiency, process modelling, and operational optimisation. He also presented some practical insights into implementing the technology.
PIL’s Dr Steve Hall also presented a paper, entitled “Recent Experiences in Applying Process Integration Techniques to Oil Refineries“. This paper described some of PIL’s recent case studies in improving hydrogen systems and heat exchanger networks on oil refineries. It showed how some of the older technology is mixed with advances in equipment knowledge to bring improvements to crude units.
Both presentations can be viewed here.
