PIL Delivers Energy-Efficient Steam Systems Training in Qatar

Prof. Robin Smith, Company President of Process Integration Limited (PIL), a consulting and solution provider to energy and other process industries, has been invited to deliver the “Energy-Efficient Steam Systems” training in Doha, Qatar to meet the needs of local market in process and gas industry.

Accompanying Prof. Smith is Dr. Yuhang Lou, manager and senior consultant of PIL’s Utility System Division who also played a crucial and vital role in this training course. Dr. Lou is one of PIL’s most experienced practitioners in the field.

The three-day course examines the production of steam from fuel combustion and water supply, through to distribution and use. Models and tools are developed that can be easily applied in the design and operation of steam systems in order to minimise operation costs and, where appropriate, to maximise the effectiveness of capital expenditure. In addition these tools can be used to determine and assess new investment proposals or to provide long term investment plans for the infrastructure to allow for projected changes in the patterns of production.

Prof. Smith is also Director of the Centre for Process Integration in the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science of the University of Manchester. He is an internationally recognised expert in the areas of process integration, process investigation, production and process design, and in process modelling. He is author of “Chemical Process Design and Integration”, published by Wiley.

PIL develops and implements emerging and innovative technology for optimisation, retrofit and reliability engineering in the refining, petrochemicals, chemicals and pharmaceutical industries. Areas of expertise include:

  • Utility System Optimisation
  • Industrial Steam Systems
  • Heat Recovery Optimisation
  • Refinery Hydrogen Management
  • Refinery Processes
  • Refrigeration System Optimisation in Low Temperature Processes
