Process Integration Limited (PIL)’s client, Utility Support Group BV (USG), caters and fulfils the utilities and energy demands for all Plants on the Chemelot industrial park based in the Netherlands. It supplies steam, electricity, industrial gases and offers advice to its users on energy efficiency related to the operation of the Chemelot steam grid. The company handles CO2 emissions trading and waste gases recycling for its customers, ensuring a smooth energy output and operation are carried out at the Chemelot site.
Chemelot is an active participant in the MEE covenant. The preparation of an Energy Efficiency Plan (Energie-efficiëntieplan) at the instigation of the Netherland Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) is a part of the covenant. USG coordinates all contributions of the plants on the Chemelot site to one overall plan. The Netherland Enterprise Agency has announced a set of very stringent regulations for the content and goals to be achieved in the 2017-2020 plan. As a result, USG has engaged Process Integration Limited (PIL) to conduct a Site Wide Utility Study to identify improvement opportunities for optimising the steam system operation and tackling its issues in the steam networks. With a series of operational optimisation strategies and retrofit project ideas proposed, PIL showed USG where the potential lies and found ways through the maze. USG can now improve their steam configuration flexibility and strengthen their position by being one step ahead achieving their Energy Efficiency Plan.
